Steve Ahlgren

Distinguished Software Engineer, Alteryx

“For 25 years, I’ve worked remotely, which means being diligent and having a disciplined practice. If you’re interested in tech, IT, or programming, you’ve got to love it because it requires commitment. Software’s a journey. There are so many facets. Every major turn I’ve had in my career has been some massive piece of learning. If you adopt a hyper-vigilant approach to being open to feedback, that’s how you’ll move forward in this career. WNC is my home; it’s where I feel comfortable. We have an organic farm. A lot of people say, ‘That’s the life I’d like to have.’ When I go to a conference, like the one in Las Vegas a couple weeks ago, I can come home and be back in the mountains. The ability to live in WNC is a treat.”
